PINK BEACH KOMODO
WELCOME TO PINK BEACH IN KOMODO ISLAND
There are two pink beaches on the Komodo Islands. The most famous pink beach is located on Komodo Island itself, not far from the location of the Loh Liang Gate or the trekking entrance to see the Komodo dragon. Laba Laba Boat team knows one more pink beach location that is more secluded and hidden from the crowds of tourists.
WHY IS THE BEACH PINK IN KOMODO ISLAND ?
The pink color on the sand is caused by the abrasion of red coral. This coral is eroded by strong currents around the Komodo National Park. The red coral is caused by a microscopic marine organism called Foraminifera. This organism changes the color of coral to red. The coral is slowly eroded and mixed with white sand, giving a beautiful pinkish color effect.
Don't believe it too much when you see some photos that circulate that make the pink beach's color look as red as dragon fruit juice, that's obviously the work of the effects of Photoshop too much. But apart from that, the pink beach is truly beautiful, with pink sand so soft almost like flour, in stark contrast to the clear emerald greenish seawater.
Pink beach is ideal for beginner snorkellers because the currents around it are not too strong and with just a shallow swim you can already see beautiful alive coral and various types of unique fish.
HOW DO YOU GET TO PINK BEACH IN KOMODO ISLAND ?
To go to the pink beach you can only use the Komodo Boat. It takes about 2.5 hours to 3 hours from Labuan Bajo to reach the pink beach.
