A SMALL ISLAND COVERED WITH MANGROVES WITH TONS OF HUGE FLYING FOXES
Also known as Kalong Island. Kalong means Bat in Indonesian. So it simply translates into Bat Island. But they are not ordinary bats. They are the Southeast Asian Megabat species in the Pteropodidae family. Some people also call them Flying Fox because it looks just like a mini fox with bat wings.
Kalong Island is a small island near the island of Rinca and Kelor Island, which is overgrown with mangroves. This plant is an important and integral part of the ecosystem to balance nature, cleanse the ocean. Most Komodo Ships will visit this small island before sunset because tons of bats will start to wake up and fly around, leaving the island to hunt for food.
You are not allowed to approach the island, just stay on the boat and watch them from afar. That is one of the favorite tourist attractions in the National Park that you should not miss when joining the Private Komodo Tour.
